Ford has taken an interesting strategy with their 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbopetrol engine (also known as the 1.5T EcoBoost), by offering it with two power output ratings. When paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox, a combination which is only available in entry-level Ambiente trim, it produces 110 kW and 240 Nm.
The biggest news is that the lowest cost model, the two-wheel-drive Kuga Ambiente, is now available with an automatic transmission. At $28,990 it's a very reasonable $1500 more than manual. It's not just the new transmission that's appealing, the Kuga Ambiente also has a new 1.5-litre EcoBoost engine replacing the now superseded 1.6-litre.
