It is unique as the design incorporates step gears to change the drive ratio within the supercharger. Also you are correct as the M45 is the unit that is used in the 1.6L Mini Cooper S. Best regards, Kaid.

My Scirocco has been back to the VW dealer 3 times and on the last ocassion they changed the Camshaft Adjuster, but I still have the noise on start-up. I'm taking the car back again and will mention the Camshaft Positioner as a potential fault.

1.4 tsi 160 hp increase reliability / life support mods. So I have a 09 Scirocco with the 1.4 TSI 160 HP engine with 130k km. As I've read a lot of horror stories regarding CAVD's reliability and given the fact that my car is not exactly new, I'm thinking whether is there anything I can do to make sure I can keep it running for as long as possible.
This same engine produces around 177 lbs/ft between 1750 - 3500 rpms. There is another version of the 1.4 Tsi that is just turbo charged that produces about 125HP. And the naturally aspirated version that produces about 70-80HP. On a related note regarding turbocharging a VR6.
4 days ago · The third generation of the Volkswagen Scirocco was available with several engine options, ranging from the small 1.4-liter TSI to the powerful 2.0-liter TSI. Some common problems were reported across the various engine types, including: 1.4-liter TSI: - Carbon buildup in the engine valves, leading to reduced performance and potential misfires.
I've heard some conflicting stories regarding the engines. Essentially (from what i've heard) the 1.4 with 160 BHP is the best option since it has the least problems and is nearly as much fun to drive. However, a Volkswagen mechanic told me recently that the 2.0 is the engine with the least issues. So because of that I am a bit hessitant.
The new GTI is powered by VW's award-winning 130 kW (180 PS) 1.4-litre TSI engine (adapted from that used in the current Scirocco), which uses both a supercharger and turbocharger to provide torque throughout the revolution range.

I think that the 1.4 TSI gets to 160 bhp with both a turbocharger and a supercharger, whereas the 122 bhp just needs the turbocharger. 160 bhp is quite a lot to wring out of a 1.4 engine - and I

The sportier coupes tend to lack some of the Scirocco’s range diversity too. There are seven different models, and six engine choices, from the entry level 1.4 petrol to the wild 276bhp Scirocco 7txACW.
